About me
Through my blog I share my love of food, cooking and taking care of myself and my family.
To let you know a little about me, my blog, and why I do what I do, I need to take you 11 years back, when our first daughter Inakshi was born.
Being a mother at a very young age of 23 is a big thing in itself. Managing a home in a nuclear family with little or no outside help, the added responsibility of a newborn makes it all the more difficult. As new parents, I and my husband were equally clueless and grappled in the dark to somehow just make do. Juggling between taking care of my daughter, her erratic eating, and sleeping pattern, studying for my PG in Business Management, home needs, and my music classes were a constant struggle and that showed and how. My back was a mess and that took a devastating toll on my life, both mentally and physically. Living with that damn back pain for past 10 years, various treatments with several doctors, medicines, physiotherapy resulting in little or no relief at all, made me kind of almost resigned to my fate.
But, fortunately, that was not to be and it started with a visit to German orthopedic hospital, Bahrain in 2015. The orthopedic surgeon is quite knowledgeable in his field of work and took great care in studying my history and came up with a simple solution of strengthening muscle through weight training.
That piece of advice has worked like a charm and I can’t thank him enough. In just two weeks of serious weight training with a trainer who knows his stuff, my condition improved dramatically and I never looked back and never intend to either. I took part in SPARTAN race this year and was my first time, completed the race 1 hour 45minutes and rightfully earned my SPARTAN WOMAN medal and take great pride in it.
This for sure motivated me and I have already enrolled myself for the SPARTAN 2018, with my ongoing regular self-training for it.
Along with training, I decided to change our lifestyle towards healthier side by cutting down on junks, fatty foods, eating out, including more of healthy foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, with the regular meat, fish, and eggs. Changed from store bought butter, ghee, to homemade ones. Replaced many other regular foodstuffs with the organic ones. Regular workouts and healthy food and lifestyle, that’s me and my family.
It was a challenge, to begin with, but, when your back and for that matter entire life and family’s happiness is at stake, you somehow manage to find the will to do the right things, and together we did just that, the best decision we have ever made. I and my husband, Biman, go hand in hand in taking all the efforts needed for a healthy lifestyle and try to inculcate this habit into our children as well. Eating right and exercising has resulted in a leaner, fitter, stronger and happier Manisha and family. Well, my story does not end right here, this is just a beginning and long way to go, because staying FIT and HEALTHY is an ongoing process.
I decided to help others in my own small way by sharing my cooking recipes that are not only delicious but healthy too, my experience, my journey from FAT to FIT, my lifestyle, developing a healthy eating habit in the family. I found a set of like-minded people on this journey and would be happy to share and talk about such interesting experiences with you.
